This clay bank is one I have passed many times on my bike riding the Foothills Trail in Pierce County, Washington. The Carbon River flows off the Carbon Glacier on Mount Rainier. The trail parallels the river for several miles and is beautiful year around. This little painting will eventually find its way into the Small Impressions Gallery along with some of my other affordable canvas panel paintings.

The painting of this little lamb was quick and fun. He was created on a 4x6 inch canvas panel with a limited palette of Sap Green, Ultramarine Blue, Titanium White, and just a touch of Alizarin Crimson oil paint. He will be joining some of my other small animal paintings in my Small Impressions Gallery as soon as the paint dries. Technorati tags:

This past weekend I took a wonderful bicycle ride through the Orting Valley in Pierce County, Washington State. Soon after I began the 15 mile trail from Puyallup to South Prairie, I encountered this lovely stand of trees. Even though it had been raining for days and the month of November had walked itself halfway to December, the beautiful orange leaves still hung on. I stopped and took several reference photos, knowing I would want to recreate the color sensation. Finally I had a chance to do a quick study. This little painting is 5x7 inches on a canvas panel. As soon as it dries, I will place it in Small Impressions Gallery along with my other affordable canvas panel paintings.

Today's little 6x6 inch oil painting is a study I did for a larger painting that I haven't yet finished. In the dark winter months of the Pacific Northwest, the bright yellow reminds me of summer and warmer climates. This version was completed on a canvas panel and is now for sale at Small Impressions Gallery for $36.00 plus $6.50 for shipping to US addresses.

It is a good thing I got outside yesterday, the rain has returned. The bright spot is that I spend more time in my studio creating new works. Looking for colorful produce to paint is a bit more of a challenge in the winter than in the summer, but luckily, these three purple onions hitched a ride home from the grocery store and decided to chit-chat while I painted them. It was fun working with a limited palette of Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, and Titanium White. The painting is 8x10 inches and will be listed for sale at Small Impressions Gallery along with some of my other small still life oil paintings and affordable canvas panels as soon as it dries.
