Baby Karsten-McKinney 1 Year Old Session

Torture. Pure torture to have to pick so few frames to sneak peek. I would try to keep it to one, but I just can’t because he is so.freaking.cute. I can’t wait to edit the rest of these because this family is dreamy. They are a Year in the Life of client and I had the pleasure of photographing Christine’s Maternity pictures, then attending and photographing their birth (can you say amazing!), then Karsten as a newborn, and at 3 months, and 6 months (which sadly didn’t get a blog post since my old blog was ummm not inspiring). I can’t wait to finish with a big pretty album chronically their amazing journey (I guess it really turned into more like a year and a half!)

I’ll post more when I’m done with the edit, but these will do for now!

Stay tuned for what  you are about to see. Priceless!

Published: Brides of North Texas, editorial tabletop for YaYa’s House

I was pleased to be asked again to photograph an editorial piece on stunning over the top table tops for Brides of North Texas featuring the work of Floral Designer YaYa’s House. This whimsical design inspired by Miss Havisham of Great Expectations. Here’s what Wikipedia says about the story:

“Miss Havisham’s mother died when she was just a baby, and her father, a wealthy brewer, spoiled her as a result. When he died, he left most of his money as inheritance for her.

As an adult, she fell in love with a man named Compeyson, who was only out to swindle her of her riches. Her cousin Matthew Pocket warned her to be careful, but she was too much in love to listen. At twenty minutes to nine on their wedding day, while she was dressing, Havisham received a letter from Compeyson and realized that he had defrauded her and she had been left at the altar.

Humiliated and heartbroken, Havisham had all the clocks stopped at the exact point in which she had learned of her betrayal. From that day on, she remained by herself in her decaying mansion, Satis House, never removing her wedding dress (as a result of being in the process of getting dressed when she receives the letter, she only has one shoe on), leaving the wedding cake uneaten on the table and only allowing a few people to see her.”

Although this inspiration seems a little sad, I think the ladies of YaYa’s put such an interesting twist on the story. I mean, if my groom didn’t show up, I’d at least want to sit at this beautiful wedding table. My favorite is the deep vibrant magenta’s and violets along with whimsical touches.

I just thought this one was funny. We were in such a condensed space with a street on one side and a stone wall on the other, it was tough to find a way to capture the breadth of it all with out using a super wide lens. The magazine always requests slightly wider so they have more room to crop in depending on the layout so you can see that I just so happen to wear a matching dress to shoot in that day!

I’ve also posted a few of my favorite images, including a couple including poor “Miss Havisham” herself! {Jesse from YaYa’s!)

Here’s some behind the scenes video of the shoot from Hakim Son’s Films!

Crystale + Jason’s Intimate Denton Wedding

I had a unique opportunity to photograph Crystale and Jason’s intimate wedding. It’s the first time in a long time I’ve shot solo and for just a few hours, so it was a nice change of pace on a date I otherwise don’t normally book. They hired me because, although they were having an intimate affair with about 50 guests in attendance, photography was important to them.  Jason’s family was so sweet and everyone seemed to have a smile on their face the entire day. I was happy to get to be involved in such a relaxed beautiful wedding.

Crystale arrived rocking her running shoes. I loved this shot of her changing into wedding shoes.

Jason gave Crystale a gorgeous string of pearls and a heartfelt card as wedding gift

I could tell Crystale is a slightly nostalgic person like myself–she just glowed as she put on the a family heirloom locket worn by many generations before.Jason’s sisters absolutely cracked me up. They gave kisses to Crystale and licked Jason’s face! This was especially funny to me, because when I was a kid, we would do that to my Dad because he thought spit was SO GROSS so it was my way of annoying him. Jason was equally shocked, it was a hilarious  moment!! Something about being with our siblings makes us act like kids, right?

Just after that, a squirrel really wanted to join the portraits and quite frankly wouldn’t take a hint!

This was just one of those personal pictures for me. I just thought it was interesting how the light was bouncing all around these pink bricks. Crystale let me have just a moment here and I’m grateful because I like this not-so-smiley picture.A dark ceremony in a very historic Little Chapel in the Woods on the TWU campus (Crystale’s undergrad Alma Mater). I was told I wasn’t allowed flash during the ceremony, but as usual, the guests always have their flashes on, I waited patiently and scored this beautiful image on Crystale on her way down the aisle. This hot day threatened rain, but the rain held off and I captured this at Hubbard Hall right before the bride and groom entered the reception. Wall Gallery Wednesday- Get it off the Wall!

I love this idea from Pottery Barn displaying a group of smaller photos on a multilevel easel. You could even purchase a few different size easels to get the same effect. Keep it polished with quality frames and mats.
