Got Ducklings!Wow, it's been a long time since I've been here! I've been spending too much time on Facebook... We decided to get ducks for eggs. A friend of mine from our church has ducks for eggs and gave us some eggs to try. They were really quite good! So we decided to get ducks instead of chickens. She saved some of her fertile eggs and a neighbor down the road hatched them out for us and today we took 16 home! My friend is taking a bunch as well and we'll see how many males/females we get and then divide them up later. So far they seem to be doing well in our homemade brooder. We're using our large wire dog kennel with cardboard pieces and a blanket wrapped around it to keep in the warmth from the heat lamp. My husband still needs to get the coop built so hopefully they won't be in our basement too long! Here are some pics of the ducks!
 Here they are in the incubator although there are other eggs that you can't see that haven't hatched yet!

 At home in the brooder. They liked jumping over/climbing on their food so we raised it on blocks to make it harder to jump over.
