INTRODUCTION
International Graduate Program for Advanced Science (IGPAS) is an interdisciplinary graduate program in the Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University. It was established in October 2004 as the first international graduate program founded in Japanese national universities. IGPAS offers courses in English for international students who are eager to obtain master’s and doctoral degrees from the Graduate School of Science. It also aims to educate Japanese students to exert their abilities as internationally-active, professional scientists.

IGPAS has proudly reserved positions of Japanese government scholarship for its master’s students since its foundation, and in 2008, IGPAS-Super Doctoral Course (SDC) has been started for doctoral students jointly with the Institute for the International Advanced Research and Education (IIARE) of Tohoku University. Students of IGPAS-SDC benefit from fellowship by IIARE to promote world top-level, interdisciplinary research at the Graduate School of Science.

Prospective students will have excellent opportunities to study modern science and conduct cutting-edge research with top-level scientists currently working at Tohoku University.

As of October, 2009, availability of financial supports for IGPAS students is as shown below.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Master’s Program
Japanese government (MEXT) scholarship for 8 students
Term of the Scholarship: 5 years (2 years + 3 years)
â– Monthly stipend of 156,000 yen as a master’s student and 157,000 yen as a doctoral student.
â– Flight tickets between the country of the student’s nationality and Japan
â– Exemption from application, admission and tuition fees.

Doctoral Program
IGPAS-SDC fellowship for 2 students
Term of the Fellowship: 3 years
â– Monthly stipend of 200,000 yen
â– 300,000 yen to compensate for admission fee
â– 250,000 yen/semester to compensate for tuition
â– Research grants of up to 500,000 yen/semester (up to 1,000,000 yen/year)

The Applied Dynamics and Optimization Laboratory at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU-Poly), Brooklyn, New York, invites applications for Graduate Research Assistantships for M.S. and Ph.D. Students, starting immediately.

These are fully funded positions, covering full tuition expenses, as well as providing competitive stipends.

Successful candidates have to apply and be admitted to the Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering for studies toward an M.S. or Ph.D. degree.

Beasiswa Singapore: Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship Fund

The Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship is synonymous with both prestige and a willingness to serve Singapore.

It marks Singapore’s continuous effort to recognise outstanding individuals with the aptitude and inclination to contribute to our society.

With generous contributions from the public, the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship Fund was set up in 1991 in honour of Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.

Level and Fields of Study
Scholars can pursue either Master’s or PhD programmes at local or overseas universities. There is no restriction on the course of study.

Applicants should individually make private arrangements to sit for the pre-admission tests such as GRE, TOEFL or GMAT.

Eligibility
The scholarship is highly selective. Applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

* Singapore Citizen with outstanding academic records (at least a Second Class Upper Honours Degree); and
* Demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities and be active in social, community services or sports.

Applicants who are pursuing a Master’s Programme in General Management should preferably have at least 4 years of working experience. Applicants who intend to pursue either PhD or other Master’s Programme should preferably pursue an area of study/research that would be beneficial to Singapore. Public Officers are required to submit their applications through their Chief Executive Officers or Permanent Secretaries.

Terms and Conditions
Besides receiving a one-off sum of S$10,000, successful applicants will be given an annual allowance. For the annual allowance portion, the private sector awardees will receive S$50,000. Those from the public sector will receive S$10,000. This Scholarship does not carry any bond.

Beasiswa S2: Postgraduate Scholarships in International and Development Economics

Master in International and Development Economics: CUD Scholarships 2010
The objective of the programme is to train students in economic policy and help them become actors of development.

The programme has a three-sided approach :

* it analyses macroeconomic and trade policy issues related to economic growth and global economic integration;

* it discusses the institutional structures required for the effective working of a market economy;
* it explores strategies of poverty reduction.

This approach aims at imparting to the students a comprehensive view so that they can contribute to the development of realistic and innovative structural reforms that are based on sound economic analyses and well adjusted to the social and political context of each country.

CONTENTS

The courses of the programme are structured around three main themes:

1- Macroeconomic Management of Developing Economics

2- Economic Development and International Trade

3- Institutions, Growth and Development

Students are expected to participate actively in the classes and seminars and to write a personal study project.

Conditions for admission

* A four year university degree in economics. The whole university education of the applicant must be equivalent to at least 300 credits, as assessed by the admission committee of the programme;

* A strong interest in development;

* A professional experience of at least 2 years in direct relation with one of the programme themes.

Scholarships available: 11

Duration of the course: 1 academic year (starting date for the course: 15 septembre 2010)

Language of instruction : English

Organising universities

The programme is organised by the “Economics School of Louvain” whose partners are Departments Economics of the University of Namur (Facultés Notre-Dame de la Paix) and of the Catholic University of Louvain (Louvain-la-Neuve).

Most activities take place in Namur.
