Nov 21, Geodon Approved As Adjunctive Treatment For Bipolar Disorder

The FDA has approved Geodon for maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder as an adjunct to lithium or valproate in adults. Geodon was previously approved by the FDA 2001 for the treatment of acute manic and mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder and for the treatment of schizophrenia. This new approval is based on data showing Geodan to also be effective as a maintenance/preventative treatment when combined with a mood stabilizer.
