"President Barack Obama sparked protests from US business and conservatives after he unveiled plans for a one-off tax on corporate cash piles as part of the $4tn budget he presented to Congress on Monday.
The president wants to raise $238bn by imposing a 14 per cent tax on the up to $2tn US companies have amassed overseas to fund the repair of America’s crumbling infrastructure"
"Mr Obama called his proposals “practical, not partisan” in a forward to the document, saying they would “put more money in middle-class pockets, raise wages, and bring more high-paying jobs to America.”
"The proposals were part of an agenda for “middle-class economics” that proposes stabilising the deficit below 3 per cent of gross domestic product over the coming 10 years. It does so by closing tax loopholes predominantly used by the wealthy and cutting health and immigration expenses, while expanding tax credits for childcare and higher education".
