Thinking of you - more butterflies & flowers

Remember this sympathy card from last week's Just choose two, butterfly-flowers challenge? I made another card at the same time using mostly the same supplies for another friend I wanted to cheer up... & I realise now it would have met the challenge too. #coincidence.

The pretty butterfly paper is also from the Falling in Love pack. I teamed it with lots of  circles (Stitched Shapes & Layering Circles dies) & a gorgeous floral die from the So Detailed die set from the Occasions Catalogue. You might recognise the stamped butterfly from my first card too.

I've learnt a photography lesson with this card too - never photograph a pink card on a pinky background. It really looks much more subtle irl.

Edited 19 Feb 2017 - This photo taken on my phone shows the true colours much better

So, which version of the card do you like more? This one or this one. Either way, remember to pin yor favourite for later inspiration.

Thanks for visiting today. I'll be back to share another card so pop back soon.

Inky wishes, Di

Want to know more about the So Detailed dies?Check out this video from Stampin' Up! that shows all the dies in the set.

JAI 347 colour challenge - balloon pop up birthday

It's time for colour challenge week at Just Add Ink & we're playing with this combination of mint macaron, pear pizzazz & rose red. The team have used this in amazingly different ways, so you must check out their fab projects on the Just Add Ink blog too.

The two very different toned greens in this challenge definitely challenged me - I like each of them separately combined with rose red & perfect plum but both together not so much. So I decided to meet the challenge by using more of one & just a touch of the other & came up with a bold, brayered, balloon birthday card.

First I used my sponge brayers to create a rose red, perfect plum & mint macaron background - I'm really loving how easy they are to use. Truly brilliant. Who knew? I kept the other elements simple - some balloons (Balloon Adventures stamp & die bundle), in matching colours, which I also sponged with the brayer to add some shading. Again really quick & easy but very effective.

A multicoloured sentiment (also from Balloon Adventures) continues the look & couldn't resist framing it with a Stitched Shapes dies circle (again) & another circle cut from the Layering Circles dies.

The balloon theme gets even more fun in the centre with the easiest post up centre, thanks to the pop up thinlit die in the bundle. I love how the balloons pop off the white base too.

You could easily replicate this in any colour scheme to fit all sorts of occasions & people. The possibilities are endless. If you liked my card, pin the collage pic below for later inspiration.

Thanks again for visiting today. Leave a comment if you liked my card or have any questions & try the colour challenge too. Until next time..

Inky wishes, Di

There's so much more to Balloon Adventures...

JAI 346 just choose two - thinking of you

Well here we are again (already?) & it's time for our latest Just Choose Two challenge at Just Add Ink. This week the team have to choose between hearts, flowers & butterflies, & I'm sure it doesn't surprise you that I've chosen flowers & butterflies as my two elements to make this soft & pretty sympathy card for a friend.

The floral paper from the Falling in Love dsp pack is so soft & lovely.  I wanted to add a little colour to the neutrals & know my friend loves blue, so added touches of soft sky for the butterflies, banner & base. The butterflies are also stamped on soft sky with a butterfly image from the Papillion Pot Pourri set & punched out with the Elegant butterfly & Bitty Butterfly punches. A touch of vellum adds elegance & dimension. The classic Thoughts & Prayers stamp set provides the elegant sentiment too.

I carried the theme to the inside too.

One thing I forgot to mention is that I added a very subtle touch of Wink of Stella to the paper flowers... impossible to see in my pic but a nice look irl.

I'm keeping the post quick this week as I'm in a super hurry to get out the door to see Simple Minds & the B52's tonight & my normal two finger typing is being hampered by my right index finger being temporarily out of action after a diy incident last weekend. All is healing though so all good :)

If you'd like to make this card yourself check out the supply list to see & order any supplies you need. Leave a comment if you have any questions & of course if you liked my card. It's so lovely to hear from visitors.

Now head over to the Just Add Ink blog to see all the team's beautiful ideas & add your own card too. Until next time, thanks for visiting & happy stamping.

Inky wishes, Di

JAI 345 sketch challenge - birthday tools

This week has flown with lots more work happening outdoors here colourmehappy hq, so it's no surprise I have tools on my mind, & used the them on my card for this week's sketch challenge at Just Add Ink. Here's the fab & flexible sketch Narelle challenged us with. Cool, huh?

I took a little liberty & squished the sketch a bit to make my card, but I'm sure you'll see all the sketch elements.

I paired together the Nailed It stamp set from the Occasions Catalogue & Labeler alphabet stamp set from the 16-17 Annual Catalogue - my first play with both of them.

I received Nailed It  as a Prize Patrol win at Onstage Live in Brisbane (#demoperks). It's not a set I'd normally gravitate too as tools are not really my darling man's thing, but I was very happy to win it, as it was something different for my collection. More ideas for masculine card ideas are always welcome.

Back to the card, I started by cutting the circle sketch elements with my Stitched Shapes framelit dies (have you figured out I LOVE these yet?), then embossed the real red circle with the new Hexagons Dynamic embossing folder (wow! another new love that one).
The dotty paper is from the Carried Away dsp pack - a Sale-a-bration freebie you can choose with any $90 purchase until 31 March. See how to get your free pack here.

I stamped the tools in basic gray archival ink & watercoloured them with smoky slate, dapper denim, old olive, real red & peekaboo peach ink & an aquapainter, then fussy cut them out. If you're thinking 'ugh, fussy cutting', you'll be glad to hear that coordinating Build It framelit dies are also available separately & as a discounted bundle. I don't have the dies yet so fussy cutting it was. I popped up all the elements on dimensionals too. Here's a more angled view of the card to hopefully help you see the dimension.

The punny birthday sentiment is a custom one I stamped using the Labeler alphabet stamp set. I love that it helps you make your message say anything you'd like, & it's such a fun font & shape. I really hope this makes the dear friend receiving the card laugh & not think we're calling him a tool, something I'd never have thought of until the darling man suggested it. What do you think?

On the inside, I used a leftover paper scrap & a few more watercoloured tools. I forgot to take a pic, but I'll add one later if I have a chance to do it before giving the card this weekend.

If you'd like to know anything else about the card, just leave me a comment. Remember to pin my card for later inspiration too. All the supplies are listed below & available to buy, if you'd like to make your own version.

Now head over to Just Add Ink to see all the fun ways the team used this great sketch & play along with the challenge too. I'll be back soon with more ideas for you to try.

Inky wishes, Di

Another Special Reason - birthday card

Today I'm sharing another card using the Special Reason - Stylish Stems stamp and die bundle and leftover scraps I had on my desk after making this Just Add Ink challenge card I shared on Friday. Life is pretty busy at colour me happy hq right now so using the same supplies definitely saved time & energy. Something I need to remember more :)

For this one I used the smaller flower outline & detail dies in the Stylish Stems die set. Oh how I love these flowers.

I think the ombre look makes the patterned paper even lovelier. Like my other card, I applied ink to the paper using a sponge brayer with pool party & (retired) coastal cabana ink pads. If you don't have coastal cabana, try a light touch with bermuda bay.

The middle flowers are only attached at the flower centre to give more dimension & are popped up on dimensionals.

The birthday sentiment is from the Special Reason stamp set. I think this plays nicely with the patterned paper too.

Happily I had a leftover scrap of paper to use on the inside, which I teamed with another flower. I didn't add a sentiment as I wanted to write my own note.

Thanks very much for visiting today. If you liked this card, check out my other Special Reason card too & remember to pin it for later inspiration. If you'd like to make your own, the supplies I used are all listed below & can be ordered from my store. Let me know if you need help or any other info too.

Inky wishes, Di

PS: Special Reason - Stylish Stems is from our Occasions Catalogue. See this post to find out more about it & our fabulous Sale-a-bration promotion.
