Voilà! The French Martini

You have a certain je-ne-sais-quoi about you. An élan. You're the connoisseur of the cul-de-sac. Before Starbucks was born, you ordered café au lait for dessert when everyone else was still thinking pie à la mode was haute cuisine. You go on a rendez-vous, while others simply date. You respond, s’il vous plaît when a simple sure will do. You're the belle of your clique. You know the difference between crème brûlée and crème de la crème, panache and papier-mâché.

When referring to your backside, it's always a derrière. Beautiful peignoirs hang in your armoire, while the rest of us stuff jammies in our dresser drawers. You prefer being au naturel instead of buck-naked. You make an occasional faux pas, but never a blunder. You've been known to utter, vis-à-vis, when making a point. You don't think references to your plates of hors d’œuvres as "horse doovers" is particularly funny. You believe lamé is, IN FACT, a fabric blended with metallic threads, not urban-slang for totally-lame-dude! You think being passé is always, well, passé!

"Moi?", you ask coquettishly.

Yes. My urban belle. Moi! Not that there's anything wrong with that!

So. For your next private tête-à-tête or evening soirée with friends,
show your savoir-faire with the classic French Martini! Et voilà!

French Martini

4 ounces Vodka
1 ounce Chambord (raspberry liqueur)
5 ounces Pineapple juice
Lemon twists
Ice

Chill 2 martini glasses.

Fill a shaker with ice and add all ingredients. Shake or stir*. Pour into chilled glasses. Garnish each with a lemon twist.

*The pineapple juice will cause this martini to be cloudy whether it is stirred or shaken.

I'll always say au revoir, my friends, but wish to never bid you adieu!
