Members of the Denton Quilt Guild have created small quilts that correlate to children's storybooks that contain a quilt or patchwork related theme. Intended to benefit the Denton community with its educational perspective, "Storybook Quilts" hopes to encourage education and reading using tangible quilts that a child can touch and hold to make the story come alive. The gallery is open Tuesday - Sunday 1-5pm. The exhibition is on view November 22, 2009 - January 8, 2010. Admission is free. Website www.dentonarts.com The Center for the Visual Arts 400 E. Hickory St. Denton, TX 76201 For a list of quilts exhibited (and images of the book covers and associated quilts) see http://www.dentonquiltguild.org/ and click on Storybook Quilts.
Fiber and mixed media artist Susan Lenz has created a "Blues Chapel" incorporating her original artwork and traditional blues music. Creating an environment that builds on the theme of the Blues is essential to the presentation of the artwork. Lenz includes authentic mahogany church pews, church fans, as well as Blues melodies, instantly transforming the existing space into a sacred setting, a real "Blues Chapel." The gallery is open Tuesday - Sunday 1-5pm. The exhibition is on view November 22, 2009 - January 6, 2010. Admission is free. Please join us on DECEMBER 6TH @ 1:00 for our annual holiday workshop. Woven paper star ornaments, a traditional Danish craft will be made. This has been a popular workshop...making the paper stars is a bit addictive. We have new papers for the stars...purple, pink. red, green, blue, white, orange and more. We will also make earth freindly paper pulp ornaments from recycled paper. Seeds may be added to the pulp, so the ornaments may be given as gifts and then planted...the gift that keeps on giving! The cost is $35 in advance, $40 at the door. This is a great opportunity to create inexpensive but lovely handmade gifts. Please email us to register for the class sooner rather than later. PS VISIT THE BLOG TO SEE PHOTOS OF OUR LAST WORKSHOP!!! TOM, JUDY, and JOHN created super prints on the GOCCO! -- brewertl@gmail.com http://thecleverwhatever.blogspot.com/ www.centerforartconservation.com Read the whole entry »
