Added in this version:
**A new cheat founded by me.
**Add some general hints of mine.
**Add a very useful formation to use.

Part 1: All the cheats for CM2.
-------------------------------------------------
(Note: All of the cheats below can be done on any
version of CM2.)
-------------------------------------------------

TIPS No.1 - Exit the game without saving.
---------------
There is a simple and easy way to boot to DOS prompt
or Windows without
having to save your game. Simply just press the
asterisk(*) key on your
keyboard and you'll be able to quit immediately
without saving. This is
an essential trick because you can just return to the
game and start off
with your previous savegame. In this way, you can
never lose a match.
Just save up before any match and exit if you lost it.

TIPS No.2 - Prevent your star players from leaving.
---------------
Ever managed a lower division club and some of your
star players(star???)
wanted to leave for a bigger club? Well this nifty
tricks will prevent
them from doing so. Place your unhappy players on loan
and when some big
clubs approached them, simply reject their offers. In
this way, your star
players will stay on your club.

TIPS No.3 - Manage International jobs.
---------------
I'm sure many of you would like to be manager of one
of the International
teams, but it takes too long for you to do so. The
following steps will
allow you to manage International jobs. Look up for
the team's manager's
name (eg. Terry Venables for England), then add a new
player to your game
and put down the manager's name instead.
Eg. when you want to manage England, simply add a new
player and put the
name as "Terry Venables."

(Note: You can only manage the teams that are
correspond to your league
game, Italy for Italian CM2, Germany for German CM2
etc.)

TIPS No.4 - Buy any interested players for "FREE".
---------------
This is the best cheats for CM2 as of now. This cheat
allows you to buy
any interested players for "FREE". Yes I mean
"FREE"!!!! Approach any
players that you think will most probably join you.
For the asking price,
place as much value as you can(mostly double the
original value), until
the opposite club accept your offer immediately, then
press 'OK.' Next,
go to 'adjust offer' and change the value to 'FREE',
then press 'CANCEL'
and you will exit the screen. Wait for the players to
negotiate his
weekly wages and accept his conditions. If the player
eventually joins
you, he will be available for FREE !!!

TIPS No.5 - Exchange players cheats. (For unpatched
CM2)
----------------
When one of your lousy player is wanted by a club, set
this player's
asking price to a very high value (20M). Then approach
one of the player
you want from the team that targets your player and
make an exchange of
players. The opposition club will agree to your
exchange offer, thus you
can get the player you want provided he is available.

TIPS No.6 - Shortlist players that are going to
retire. (For unpatch CM2)
---------------
Shortlist those great players who are going to retire
soon, eg.Klinsmann,
Romario, Koeman, Gullit etc. When they eventually
retire, those on your
shortlist will be replaced by a very young player but
with the same
abilities as the previous retired player. You will
then get many young yet
talented players in your squad, usually they cost very
cheap.

TIPS No.7 - Buy your favourite star player. (just
added)
---------------
Ever wanted to buy your favourite star player but they
won't join you? I
have found a way by making them join your club. First
when you start a new
game, put down the manager name as the player's name
(eg. Cantona, Maldini)
and when the player is available, try to buy him and
he's yours.

Part 2: General hints of CM2.
--------------------------------------------------
(Just some general hints from me.)
--------------------------------------------------
##When you start a new game and you find that some of
your young players'
attribute is very good, beware! Cos they do not
usually play that good in
actual matches. You can loan them out and wait until
they are about 22-23
in age then try them out. Young players do lack
experience, aren't they?

##Try not to put your fowards as midfielders, they
usually play as support
role or as striker.

##Bear in mind that wingers must be good in creativity
and pace, as well as
stamina to make long and fast runs.

##Try not to use slow defenders, as they will allow
fast opponent attackers
to break through. They are also slow to run back to
defence.

##Sweeper must be good in headers and marking, as well
as strength. They do
not need much pace though.

##It is best to have a striker good in creativity and
one good in shooting.
One can provide for the other to score, which is a
very good tactic, rather
than having two sharp shooter, but their chances of
scoring is much lesser.

##I don't find playing anchor a good tactic as they
usually do not play
that good in matches. Well, that's my idea anyway.

Part 3: Very useful formation to use.
-------------------------------------------------
(Below is a good formation which I use, and I won most
of the game.)
-------------------------------------------------

A A A = Attacker
. .
. .
. .
LF ^ ^ RF LF = Left Forward RF
= Right Foward

^ MF MF ^ MF = Midfield / Attacking
Midfielder

| | LB = Left Back RB
= Right Back
LB CB RB CB = Center Back
SW SW = Sweeper

GK GK = Goalkeeper

Tactic to use: Direct style

Championship Manager 2 - Hints and Tips

Submitted by: kumayl hassan
E-mail: goldiman2002@yahoo.com

Championship Manager 2 is a football (known as soccer
to some of you) management simulation
computer game. This game allows you to take on the job
of managing a football team and gives you
all the options a real life manager would have - such
as a buying and selling players in a world wide
transfer market, choosing tactics, formations and
styles of play.

Team Formations

An almost infinite amount of formations can be used
(if you like silly formations that is, but 4-4-2,
Christmas Tree etc, are all possible). Each player
being able to be placed in five positions across the
field ( left, center left, central, center right,
right) either as sweeper, defender, anchor, midfield,
support and attack. It is even possible to place your
goalkeeper up front in one last ditched
Higuita/Schmeichel style attempt for an all out
attack.

There are 15 pre set team formations to choose from
ranging from Ultra Defensive to All Out Attack
and you can of course customize any of these
formations.

The team formation can be changed at any point during
the match (and between matches and you
will be warned if the opposition team makes a change
in tactics and you can look at their tactics
screen and take counter measures).

The placing of players in a formation is easily done
by using the mouse to drag the players name on
to a representation of the football pitch and into the
position you want him to play.

Player Runs

Each player can be given instructions on the type of
runs he should be making during the match. This
is done from the same screen as the team formation by
using the right mouse button to draw an
arrow from the player to where he should be running.
So for example if you want wing back type
players then you can draw an arrow from the full backs
right down the length of the pitch and this
will instruct that player to make runs down the side
of the field to put crosses in etc.

Some of the pre-set formations as mentioned above will
also include the type of runs the players
would make in these type of formations.

Playing Styles

There are three types of playing styles you can
instruct your team to use:

Long Ball This is where the ball is hit long and high
up front into zones asoppose to any target man.
Even if the defenders win the ball, advancing
midfielders and strikers are quick to close down
possession and try and win back the ball. A lot of the
lower division teams would employ this style
of play, sometimes known as a 'percentage game'.
Passing This is where the team would build up the play
by short passing movements. Examples of
this style would be Liverpool, Newcastle, and Notts
Forest.
Direct This is where the ball is played from the back
to the forward players, without necessarily
being passed through the midfield. This differs from
Long Ball, in that passes are aimed at particular
players (e.g. a targetman), rather than just booted
into areas. Examples of teams playing this style
are Blackburn and Everton.

Obscure Features of CM2

This section covers those features which may not be
covered by the manual or the README.TXT
file and which may have gone unnoticed by you. So read
on and you may discover some more useful
features of the game.

Right Mouse Button

Clicking on Done using the right mouse button when in
the main menu will advance the calendar on a
daily basis as opposed to using the left mouse button
which will generally advance the calendar to
your next fixture. This will be helpful when you want
to avoid missing transfer deadlines or when
wanting to buy new players etc.

Space Bar

Pressing the space bar during a match sequence will
speed up the match.

Overall-Home-Away Record

On any league table by clicking on the Overall Record
at the top of the table you will be able to see
the Home Record - click again you'll see the Away
Record.

Description of player match stats

In the player stats screen for any match - by hovering
the mouse over the titles for each column of
stats you will have a box appear which contains a
description of what these stats mean.

Team Progress Graph

By clicking the mouse on the position number of any
team in any league or group table you will see
that teams progress within the table in the form of a
graph.

View Match Option

You may view any match by clicking on the v for versus
on a fixture list. This will turn the v to view.
Clicking a second time will revert back to v again.

m and escape keys

Pressing the m or escape key will return you to the
main menu at the next possible opportunity.
Please note that to get the computer's attention
repeatedly pressing or holding down the key may be
necessary.

Match Stats of Played Games

: By clicking on the score (from any type of results
screen) of any played game within one season
will allow you to see all the stats for that match.

Manager History

: By clicking on the managers name in the general info
screen of the Squad screen this will enable
you to see the entire history of that manager.

Transfer Deadlines

: In the player search screen, when the players names
are in grey this means the transfer deadline of
the country in which that player is playing has
passed. So this means any player in grey writing
cannot be bought.

Description of Player Ratings

This is a description of the categories used in the
rating of players. These have been divided into five
sections:

Footballing skills
Goalkeeping skills
Physical Attributes
Mental Attributes
Hidden Ratings

Footballing skills

Creativity: Whether he can create goalscoring chances
for his team-mates with incisive passes,
headers, flick-ons etc.
Dribbling: Whether he can take on and beat defenders
to create dangerous situations from which a
goalscoring chance might arise.
Flair: Whether he has the tendency to do the
unexpected, for example shoot from 30 yards, or try
something brilliant.
Heading: Whether he is good in the air and wins
headers either in defense or attack
Marking: Whether he has the ability to track an
opponent and mark him out of the game.
Off the Ball: Whether he makes good runs into space
which can lead to a shot/header on goal if he
is given the ball.
Passing: Whether he can pass the ball where he wants
it.
Positioning: Whether he has good defensive positional
sense and rarely gets caught out of position.
Set Pieces: Whether he can make use of set piece
situations(corner, free kick) either by making a
creative pass or a direct shot on goal.
Shooting: Whether he scores goals.
Tackling: Whether he is good at making tackles to
dispossess an opponent.
Technique: Whether he has good control, first touch,
and all round technical ability

Goalkeeping skills

Shot Stopping: This is their ability to save shots.
Passing: This is their accuracy when kicking or
throwing the ball out.
Set Pieces: This is their ability to defend set
pieces, line up the wall etc.
Positioning: This is their positioning for shots,
crosses etc.
Aerial Ability: This is their ability in the air, for
example when handling corners and crosses.
Rushing Out: This is whether he can rush out quickly
in one-on-one situations.

Physical Attributes

Aggression: Whether he goes in hard when competing for
the ball, without necessarily being dirty.
Injury Proneness: Whether he is often out of action
with injuries. The higher the rating the more
likely the player is to get injured
Pace: Whether he has speed and acceleration both in
and out of possession.
Stamina: Whether he can keep going at the end of the
most grueling matches.
Strength: Whether he has strength in holding off
opponents to keep possession or in competing to
win the ball.

Mental Attributes

Determination: Whether he keeps battling, even when
the odds are against him.
Influence: Whether he can motivate and inspire
team-mates, as for example a captain would.
Intelligence: Whether he can read the game and make
good decisions about when to sit back, push
up etc.

Hidden Ratings

Big Occasion: Whether he rises to the occasion in big
games, play- offs, top of the table clashes,
cup finals, etc.
Character: Whether the player reacts badly to on/off
the field events. On the field this could be
whether he reacts to provocation, off the field
whether he reacts to being dropped, fined etc. The
higher the rating the more likelythe player will react
badly to on/off the field events.
Consistency: Whether he normally performs to his
ability and rarely has an off day.
Dirtiness: The amount of bad fouls, bookings and
sending off a player is likely to commit/get. You
can tell who has a high rating for this because of the
amount of fouls, yellow and red cards he has, or
the number of disciplinary points a player has
accumulated.
Ability: This is an overall rating of how good the
player is now.
Potential Ability: This is a rating of how good the
player could become. For a young player his
ability will tend to rise towards his potential
ability as he gets older; for a player at his peak his
ability
will tend to be equal to his potential ability; for an
older player his ability will tend to drop below his
potential ability. The ability rating is therefore a
variable rating and all the other ratings are relative
to
this rating and the potential ability rating.

with all the fixtures and all the dates where no

4.Click on home or away icon depending if you want
to play a friendly home or away.
5.A full list of squads will appear (all the
English ones and use More Teams to display foreign
teams) - click on the squad you would like to

6.A screen will appear showing you the dates
available for a friendly (if any) with that team and

you - so don't expect to be able to play

jobs when you have built up some sort of
reputation. You will start to build up a reputation
when you have had some success with a club for at
least two seasons.

HINTS:
-----
Look at the free transfer market, occasionally you'll
find young
talents and good players there.

Look at developing and under-inflated transfer markets
such as East Europe,
America and Africa. You can pick up many good players
at a cheap prize from there.

Listen to your scouts, and try to sign players that
are "Highly Recommended".

Talk to the 4 Razers and persuade them to stop cutting down the forest.
After this is done, go back to the King in Fraywood and he will join your
party. You also need to find the Unicorn Horn in Fraywood. First, talk to
Gwin Aerlynbane. Cast a truth spell on Rianen Aerlynbane. She will tell
you where the Chastity Belt Key is to be found. Take the Key to Gwin
and use it. She will join your party. When you leave the building, the
Unicorn will be there. Talk to him. Use the search command to find an
Acorn in Fraywood before leaving.

Vinazia
--------
To get to Vinazia without losing anyone in your party, you must do one
of 3 things when going there: teleport, buy passage and disguise yourself
with the theatre costumes, or book private passage with the sailor Kier
Planck (found in a tavern in Galraven). Fight your way to the castle.
Once inside the castle fight your way to the second floor. On the second
floor, you will find Duke Goromond. Kill the Duke and retrieve the Crown
of Alonia.

Mt. Shasta
-----------
First, find the Giant's house at the top of the mountain. Take one of his
poems. The portal to Aerieus is found in the cave. You must defeat the
dragon in the cave. If the revisibility spell has been cast, the portal will
appear.

Aerieus
--------
First, talk with the King and discover the assassin (Senator Tonerridge)
who is out to kill the King by casting the Truth spell on NPC's. Next, bring
Senator Glorenzia the Newspaper from Burano (get the Newspaper from
Renjac Taskmaster by first casting a Truth spell on him and then bringing
him the Parchment Paper and Ink supply from Fenaysia). Third, talk to
Senator McKlennia, then go to Nyxx and talk to Quetzl Too, you will then
receive the Book of Wisdom. By rescuing Chauncey Garedener from the
Peregrine Rogues in Nyxx and returning him to the home of Aramdrac
Mason in Fenaysia, you will receive a Vial of Aeriean Air.

Ruddiquid
----------
After you collect all 5 crowns go to Castle Thiris and enter the portal to
Ruddiquid. AFter entereing, cast the Restoration Spell. You must fight your
way through the maze to finally come upon Grimnoth himself. You must cast
the
Slay Evil spell on Grimnoth. Demons are very difficult to beat but you can
use magic and weapons on them. Skeleton warriors are killed only by magic.
Beezleroths sometimes bounce magic back at you, so it is not always a good
idea to cast an explode spell on them.

own special abilities and weaknesses, wage a war for survival
in the 5 levels of caverns under the surface of Ibido.
Research Technologies and Magic to develop new weapons to
overcome and conquer.

2. Are there any cheat codes?
CAVE Godmode, gives you 250000 of everything, and all the spells
and technologies.

3. What are the system requirements?
-IBM or 100% Compatible
-100% Microsoft Compatible mouse
-VESA (1.2) Compliant SVGA video card
-CD-ROM drive
-8MB Ram
-MS-DOS 5.0 or higher(will run in Win95)
-486DX or better

4. I have an ATI Video card, and I am getting an error about the video, or

a blank screen when I try to run the game.

You need to load a VESA driver for your video card. You can get
a shareware VESA driver, UNIVBE, from Scitech Technology.

5. I have a Rendition based 3D card (3D Blaster, Screamin' 3D) and the
game
crashes with a DOS4/GW error every time I try to play.

Some of the newer 3D cards are not completely VESA 1.2 compatible.
However, download the Cavewars 1.2 patch, and this will solve
this problem.

6. When I start the game, I get a message about sound effects being
disabled,
even though I have a sound card.

You must have a 100% Soundblaster compatible sound card. In
addition, the "SET BLASTER" line needs to be in the
Autoexec.bat file,
and the IRQ must not be higher than 7.

7. The game locks up when I try to save a game.

You select a slot, then the mouse cursor is locked until you type
in a name for the saved game at the top entry box and hit enter.

Then you can choose SAVE, or just Close if you decide you don't

want to save that game.

8. How can I tell how far along I am in researching something?

You can't. Since there are no random events in the game, this
gives the feeling of chance to the game, since you never know when

the next breakthrough will come. This is after all, research,
just
as it is in real life. It also adds some tension to the game,
since you can't plan based on having a researched item by a
particular time.

9. How can I tell if food or minerals are in my cities range?

Click on the Eye, choose control. That will show a colored
square on the small map around each of your cities, anything in
that square is in that particular cities control.

10. When I ship population between cities, they don't use food.

Correct. They don't use food from the cities,(they eat off the
land en route). There is a trade-off involved, however. You
might
try shipping population back and forth to alleviate food
shortages,
but population in transit does not contribute to research,
production, defense, or magic.

11. I use some of the magic spells multiple times. Is there a quicker
way
than going to the spellbook, choosing the spell, etc.

Hit the "s" key. That will cast the last spell chosen. This comes

in handy when you're mapping the levels.

12. Do I need the CD in to run the game?

You need the cd in to start the game, but once the game is up and
running, you can take it out and replace it with your favorite
music cd. Hit TAB to bring up the cd player within the game.

13. How do I change the CD play mode?

There is a small button in the lower right-hand corner of the
cdplayer box that switches between random, repeat, and regular
mode.
The current mode is listed in the cd info, random, repeat,
regular(shows
nothing).

14. The manual says that all the races must be unique, but I ran across a

city the same race as mine.

The computer player races will be unique, but neutral cities(those

with white flags) will sometimes be the same race as your own.

15. I am constantly running out of food. What can I do?

Build your cities in the area of food deposits. Make sure you
research Cave tech, since that increases the food production of
your cities. Once you get high enough, you can get food from
blank
spaces as well as those with food deposits. Try shipping
population back and forth some, since they don't eat from you food

stores.(see 9 above for the trade-off).

16. I'm trying to select a city with units on it, and I keep selecting the

units.

Right-click on a city to select it.

17. Can I tell what the enemy units are before I attack them?

As long as you can see them(they are visible to your units), just
right-click on them like you do with your own units. You can then

tell what you are going up against. Note: Invisible units in a
stack
with visible units will not be shown when you right click.

18. The playback toggle doesn't work.

The playback toggle is only active when there are more than 1
human
players. If you are just playing against the computer, that
function is disabled.

19. I don't have the manual handy. How can I tell what a spell does
before I cast it?

Right-click on the spell in the spell book and in the space below,

it will describe what that particular spell does.

20. Are summoned creatures shackled by the particular race's range/melee
modifiers?

No. Same goes for tanks and things like that.

21. How many people die per turn if you don't have enough food?

How ever many people you don't have enough food for, plus 2-3%,
so you don't get the not enough food message every turn.

22. How do mounts affect combat?

Faster movement, and the modifiers spelled out in the index.
(i.e., +1 to attack for Balthi).

23. Do my excess resources go to waste?

When you allocate production via the slider bars, any excess
production goes toward your next unit, then to research. Toil is
never wasted.

24. What is the best race to play?

Each race has their own unique strengths and weaknesses. There is
no way to say which particular race is the best. Check future
issues of the General(call 1-800-999-3222 to subscribe) for
articles detailing strategies and play from the viewpoint of the
different races.

25. Can I choose how many cavern levels to play with?

If you download the latest version (1.11 or 1.2), you can select
how many levels to play with. Note that you may dig to any level,
but the computer players will not. Make sure the levels.fdg file
is in the \DLGS subdirectory.
